In a few weeks, on January 12, 2010, we will mark the one-year anniversary of the UNHRC resolution that commissioned the Goldstone Report. Who was pulling all the strings? Who created Goldstone’s “fact-finding” mission?
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which controls the UNHRC, is not shy, and, in many ways, is far more honest about this than Goldstone. Here’s what OIC secretary-general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu told Al Jazeera in October:
"Let me first start by completing the story of the history of the Goldstone report. What I would like to put on record is that the OIC was the initiator of this process.
On January 3, during the attacks on Gaza, we convened the executive committee of the OIC on a ministerial level. It was decided that the OIC group in Geneva should ask the Human Rights Council to convene and consider the possibility of sending a fact-finding mission to Gaza.
The OIC was instrumental in getting through this resolution and thanks to the good offices of Ms Pilay, the UN high commissioner, that she formed this fact-finding mission headed by Judge Goldstone.
On October 8, I visited Geneva and had a meeting with OIC ambassadors and the high commissioner. We revived the process again and the Goldstone report has been approved by the rights council."

En unas pocas semanas, el 12 de enero de 2010, que se conmemorará el primer aniversario de la resolución del Comité de Derechos Humanos (CDH) que encargó el informe Goldstone. ¿Quién fue tirando de las cuerdas? ¿Quién creó esta misión para hayar los hechos?
La Organización de la Conferencia Islámica (OCI), que controla el CDH, no se cohíbe, y, en muchos aspectos, es mucho más honesta acerca de esto que el propio Juez Goldstone. He aquí lo que el Secretario General de la OCI Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, dijo a Al Jazeera en octubre:
"Permítanme empezar por completar la historia del informe Goldstone. Me gustaría dejar constancia de que la OCI fue el iniciador de este proceso.
El 3 de enero, durante los ataques contra Gaza, que convocó el comité ejecutivo de la OCI a nivel ministerial se decidió que el grupo de la OCI en Ginebra debe pedir al Consejo de Derechos Humanos de convocar y considerar la posibilidad de enviar una misión de investigación a Gaza.
La OCI fue determinante para que a través de esta resolución y gracias a los buenos oficios de la Sra. Pilay, la alta comisionada de la ONU, que formó esta misión de investigación encabezada por el Juez Goldstone.
El 8 de octubre, visité Ginebra, y tuvo una reunión con los embajadores de la OCI y el Alto Comisionado. Hemos reactivado el proceso de nuevo y el informe de Goldstone ha sido aprobado por el Consejo de Derechos."
